Burial in Betaghstown (duleek Lower By.)

Burial

What is recorded here

Two young men were buried together in Betaghstown before the town existed. They may have been brothers, lovers or warriors, but no written record survives to confirm it. The ground kept their bones until housing work exposed them, then they disappeared again into the unknown.
Archaeological testing (01E1170) by L. Clarke at a housing development recovered the partial remains of two young adult males (excavations.ie 2001:945) which were completely removed, and there was no evidence of any other burials. Although no dating material was recovered, it is thought likely that they are of later prehistoric or early medieval date. (Clarke 2001) Date of upload; 20 December 2021
