What is recorded here
Raheen is a vanished fairy fort in Limerick pasture, recorded on maps from 1840 but levelled before 2011. It may have stood as a simple earthen ring where people lived, marked animals or avoided danger. The land remembers the shape even when the soil no longer shows it.
In pasture, 20m NE of townland boundary with Bohernagore. Annotated ‘Raheen’ on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map where depicted as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. Levelled monument visible as circular cropmark on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-2013. No surface remains visible on Google Earth orthoimages.
