What is recorded here
Ballyowen castle rose beside a field where its original well still gave clean drinking water in 1912. The castle has vanished, but the well may still hide under grass or stones, waiting for someone thirsty to remember the name.
According to Joyce (1912, 355-6) the original well of Ballyowen castle (DU017-0300-) located in an adjoining field was still being used for drinking purposes at his time of writing. The exact location of this monument is unknown.
