Palmerstown Lower, castleknock (within Phoenix Park) holds an 1868 burial pit on the south bank of the river Liffey. The pit contained a cist burial with a cinerary urn, an unenclosed cinerary burial and a food vessel, suggesting people died, were burned or placed beside what they valued, and the river carried the memory onward.

In 1868 burials were discovered in a pit on the S bank of the river Liffey (Frazer 1866-9, 336-40). The remains comprised a cist burial with a cinerary urn, an unenclosed cinerary burial and associated food vessel (Waddell 1970, 116; Kavanagh 1973, 546; Waddell 1990, 84-6).
