What is recorded here

In pasture, on a gentle N- facing slope. Sub-rectangular area (dims. 20m NNW-SSE; 18m ENE-SW) with uneven interior, defined by remains of a levelled bank (Wth 4.65m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.35m) to E and SE which elsewhere is reduced to scarp (Wth 1.85m; H 0.4m). Rectangular annexe (dims. 12m NNW-SSE; 6m ENE-WSW) adjoining to E, is defined by a low bank (Wth 6.95m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.65m) to NE, E and S with possible entrance (Wth 2.2m) at ENE and cattle gaps (Wth 1.8m) at NNW and SSW where it adjoins moated site. Platform (dims. 9m NNE-SSW; 6m ESE-WNW) defined by scarp (Wth 2m; H 1m) NW-SE adjoins annexe to N and projects beyond it to E. Interior of platform is at same level as interior of moated site. Moated site, annexe and platform are enclosed by a fosse (overall Wth 6.55m; basal Wth 2.25m; D 0.85m) which has been backfilled NW-NE and SE-S where outer bank may have been pushed inwards. Outer bank (Wth 3.9m; int. H 0.85m; ext. H 0.65m) is best defined N-SE and S-NW and is partially levelled into fosse SE-S and is levelled NW-NE. Probable entrance (Wth 3.5m) at E and breach (Wth 3m) at SW. Outer fosse (overall Wth 4.7m; basal Wth 2.6m; D 0.5m) ESE-SE and SW-N. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
