What is recorded here
Cast-iron wall-mounted post box, erected c.1890, with 'VR' insignia, crown motif, and with maker's mark 'WT Allen & Co London' to base, mounted in painted ruled-and-lined rendered wall of two-storey house at end of terrace.
The cast-iron post box forms a modest though attractive part of the streetscape. Its recognizable form and simple detail illustrate the artistic qualities of mass production at the time of the casting and remains in use as an important feature in the social and urban fabric of the town.
