Freestanding cast-iron pillar postbox, erected c. 1970. Shallow domed cap, fluted collar, moulded neck and base, maker's insignia to rear of plinth reads 'Carron & Company Stirlingshire'.

This appealing cast-iron artifact makes a subtle but positive impression on the streetscape. Displaying a high standard of design and detailing it is an example of the quality of mass-produced ironwork. postboxes are robust and enduring reminders of differing phases of Irish history through the presence of royal and post-Independence insignia, although the original door in this case was replaced with the current plain one. Coolock remained a small village until the latter decades of the twentieth century, developing as a suburban community in the 1970s, with industrial estates such as this being constructed subsequently.
