Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c. 1915. Vertical oblong shape, moulded edge, protruding flap embossed 'POST OFFICE' over letter slot, embossed G R insignia with crown, embossed manufacturer's mark 'W T ALLEN & Co. LONDON', hinged access door with slot for collections information plate. Mounted in rubble stone wall at Y-junction.
This cast-iron post box is of significant historic and social interest, acting as a reminder of the era of post-Edwardian rule in Ireland before Irish independence in the 1920s. Its high quality cast-iron work makes an artistic contribution to the streetscape.
