What is recorded here

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1925, with the SE insignia and manufacturer's mark 'W.T. Allen & Co. London' to the base. Set in rendered wall.
The recognisable form and simple detail of this post box illustrate the artistic qualities of mass production at the time of casting. The Saorstat Éireann emblem marks the beginning of the post Independence era in Ireland. The London firm of founders, W.T. Allen & Co., was in operation from 1881-1955.
