Pit in Bay

The site was subject to geophysical survey (08R017) and excavation (Licence no. E3919) in advance of the construction of the Tyrrelstown to N2 Link Road. This monument consisted of a rectangular pit (1.94m x 0.95m) containing occasional charcoal identified as alder, ash, hazel and wild cherry. Charred oat grains were abundant and had been processed prior to deposition in the pit. Burnt animal bone was also recovered indicating domestic use.
