That is a conical boundary cairn, 2m high with flush faces, marking the exact point where the unbuilt line between Erriff and Aghavoghil stops running north-south and bends NNW. It sits on a local rise of a broad plateau in County Leitrim, still visible though the 1910 OS 6-inch map gave it only the plain name ‘Pile of Stones’. Someone built it to make an invisible ownership line visible, and it has kept that job against rain, grass and forgetting.

Marked only on the 1910 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a ‘Pile of Stones’. It is located at a point where the unbuilt townland boundary between Erriff to the W and Aghavoghil to the E changes direction from S-N to a NNW direction proceeding N.
