What is recorded here
Patrick MacGill came from the Glenties area and worked on the Glasgow-Greenock railway in Scotland. He sold his first poetry collection door to door in Greenock for sixpence a copy and became known as the 'navvy poet'. His writing drew on the lives of migrant workers. Published accounts disagree on his exact birth year, so this account does not give one; the map point is approximate.
