What is recorded here

In the SW corner of a large gravel parking zone within Anacotty Industrial Estate, the top soil has been removed and a gravel surface has been laid in the area of the earthwork. Depicted as a non-antiquity on the 1838 OS 6-inch map where the outline of a circular area (approx. diam. 30m) indicated with a solid line has a trigonometrical station marked in the centre. The 1897 edition of the OS 25-inch map depicts a raised area surviving only from N through E to S that has been incorporated into a field boundary at E. This map also depicts a quarry 20m W of the surviving element. Digital Global orthoimage taken 2011-13 and Google Earth imagery 2018 confirms that no surface trace of the monument survives. Doubtful antiquity, the feature indicated on the 1840 OS 6-inch map have been a low mound constructed by the Ordnance Survey as a base for the Trig. Station which marked the spot height 125 ft. OD.
