What is recorded here
Two-stage canal lock, c.1780, with coursed limestone walls having limestone coping. Three sets of timber and iron lock gates. Timber mooring post at intervals between gates. Lowest gate altered to allow construction of modern bridge.
More extensive than other locks on this stretch of the canal, this lock of standard design retains many original features and finishes despite minor alteration. Adds character to this group around the twentieth-century bridge, and is an important element of the overall canal group.
