Moated site in Carrigans Upper

In undulating pasture, on a N-facing slope and within a field system (SL033-070----). A rectangular area (11.5m N-S; 16m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.4m) with an external fosse (Wth 3m). A possible entrance (Wth 2m) is on the W side. There is a quarry to S. This is the only moated site which lies within the substantial holdings in South Sligo belonging to the Cistercian Abbey at Boyle in Co. Roscommon (Carville 2002, 348-9 and 328-9) and therefore it could possibly be a moated grange belonging to the abbey.
