What is recorded here

Freestanding triangular-profile cast-iron milestone, erected c.1890. Chamfered triangular top with lettering and numbering, 'Kinsale 6 Cork 13' in relief. Makers mark to faces reading ‘Barnes Cork’.
This milestone is a notable feature of the roadside. Its triangular form and simple well-executed detailing make it instantly recognisable and legible to passers-by. It is a fine example of the well-designed, utilitarian objects which iron casting produced in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Milestones of this type are becoming increasingly rare with only a small number avoiding damage or removal.
