Windele found six stones in three lines on Mount Kippoch, but the tomb's roof had already vanished when he wrote. Two central stones still rose four feet above the heather while the rest lay buried to their shoulders, suggesting a chamber large enough for several people to enter together. The missing table stone may have fallen during a storm or been carried away to build a wall, yet the chamber's shape still points to the day these stones first closed around the dead.

According to Kelly (1897, 104), Windele recorded on 'Mount Kippoch' a monument in the coarse grass and heather 'which looks as though it may have been a cromleac, but there remains no vestige of a table stone'. Remains consisted of six stones standing in three distinct lines; two of the central ones were about four feet in height and three feet broad; the other stones are deeply sunk in ground' protruding c. 18ins; sockets of three others visible at south side (ibid.).
