What is recorded here

According to local information this natural rock outcrop served as a mass rock for the local people during penal times (pers. comm. Marie Seery, 01/05/2019). A crucifixion slab of post-1700 date which was used as a window sill in the adjoining cottage ruins to SW was taken from this building and is now kept in nearby Coolvuck House. It is possible that the cottage to the SW of the mass rock was the residence of an R. C. priest during penal times. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 02 May 2019
A mass-rock used for clandestine Catholic worship during the Penal Times; associated with the crucifixion slab found at the site, reflecting the persecution and resilience of the local Catholic community.
