No visible surface trace remains, yet inside the Rathaneague ringfort a collapsed stone-built underground passage still exists. McCarthy recorded it in 1977, preserving the hidden shape of a place that now resists easy imagination. People may have built it to store, hide or escape, while the earth took it back.
