Man-made underground passage in Kilnagnady

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Kilnagnady holds a vanished chamber inside a ringfort, discovered in 1981 and erased before anyone could follow it. A small passageway led away from the collapsed area, then people backfilled it and departed. The earth kept the shape of human hands, but it gave back no witness, no measurement and no memory. What was made there has been swallowed by the field.
In ringfort (CO096-01901-). Discovered in 1981. According to local information, a small passageway led away from the collapsed area. Backfilled almost immediately. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
