Man-made underground passage in Killeen

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Situated on a steep natural hillock marked with an OS trig. point (437ft/133m OD), in gently undulating pasture with excellent views to E, SE and S. In ringfort (WM025-128----), inside the bank at WSW is a relatively recently formed circular-shaped depression marking a collapsed Man-made underground passage. A small piece of drystone masonry and a small part of a lintel can be seen through the rubble collapse. A linear arrangement of four or five formally set stones is located c. 4m to E and may be associated with the Man-made underground passage. A roughly circular-shaped, shallow depression extends inside the upper edge of the bank across the NE and SE quadrants and may also be associated with the Man-made underground passage.
