Man-made underground passage in Drumbilla

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

That is a man-made underground passage hidden under Drumbilla. It may have collapsed into the ringfort long ago, leaving only a shallow depression behind. People may have built it to hide, store things or escape danger. What remains is a quiet hole in the ground, waiting for memory to return.
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Depression in NE quadrant of the interior of ringfort (LH003-013001-) may be a collapsed Man-made underground passage.
