No visible surface trace remains in Cloongeel, but a man-made underground passage once cut through the earth beside the ringfort. It disappeared after being filled in, leaving behind only the memory of a hidden route. People may have dug it to hide, escape or reach another place without being seen. The earth took the passage back, yet the shape of that choice still lives under the soil.

In ringfort (CO022-164---). According to Bowman (1934, 488), 'a Man-made underground passage was found here c. 10 years ago. It is now filled in'. No visible surface trace.
