Allen's Bridge

Triple-arch limestone road bridge, built c. 1830, over River Dalua. Random rubble walls having curved coping stones, cut-stone string course above arch level. Round arches having tooled stone voussoirs and projecting keystones. V-cutwaters to upstream elevation. Cobbled area below arches and to west of bridge. Stone rampart to road to south having some stone steps.

This fine triple-arched slightly hump-backed bridge is a solidly constructed example of a nineteenth-century road bridge. It serves as a reminder of the quality of engineering and local craftsmen's skills in the early nineteenth century. The quality of detailing to the arches and string courses is notable and the presence of cobbled ground under the arches is most unusual.
