Lisnafohana

In pasture, on N-facing slope above Argideen River. Raised circular area (diam. 30m) enclosed by earthen bank (H 3.8m). Outer stone facing NW->S. Low section to SSE may be blocked entrance; gap to N (Wth 2m). Traces of external fosse noticeable NW->N. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Lisnafohana is a likely early-medieval ringfort, characterized by a raised circular area with a substantial earthen bank and partial stone facing. Local tradition may associate it with fairy lore, as suggested by the name "Lisnafohana," which includes the Irish "fóthanga" (fairy).
