Castleknock, County Dublin, is the birthplace of Liam Cosgrave, the man who later became Taoiseach. He entered the world there on 13 April 1920 during the War of Independence, the first child of W. T. Cosgrave and Louisa Flanagan. That small domestic beginning stands in sharp contrast to the international stage he later occupied, including Ireland's entry into the United Nations.
