Lackeel House

Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1820, having two-bay single-storey extensions to rear with lean-to and flat roofs. Hipped slate roof with clay ridge tiles having rendered and replacement block chimneystacks, with some cast-iron rainwater goods. Coursed sandstone rubble walls with some red brick vent bricks to plinth. Square-headed window openings having sandstone voussoirs, tooled limestone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows with ogee sash horns and some timber panelled shutters internally. Round-headed door opening having render surround with square-profile Doric-style pilasters with plinths and moulded archivolt. Timber panelled door with cobweb fanlight having decorative surround. Outbuilding and cobbled yard to rear, having three-bay single-storey outbuilding with hipped slate roof, coursed sandstone rubble walls, square-headed windows and central elliptical-headed carrigae entrance with limestone voussoirs and double-leaf timber battened door. Recent entrance to west.

This early nineteenth-century house is enhanced by the retention of ridge tiles, limestone sills, timber sash windows and its fine doorway. The group of house and outbuildings forms an interesting visual focus in the landscape.
