Marianne and the unknown woman stood before a low earthen ring, not a distant castle or grand monument. The woman touched the grassy bank and told Marianne that the fort was a living chamber where forgotten human life still moved. Marianne watched rain collect in the outer ditch and imagined people walking that circle long before written history. She left with the woman, carrying the idea that small excluded places may still be breathing.

In level pasture. Circular area (22m ENE-WSW) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.45m); intervening fosse (D 0.25m); outer earthen bank (H 0.65m); external fosse (D 0.35m). External fosse waterlogged; truncated by field boundary to SW. Banks and interior heavily overgrown. Break (Wth 3.15m) in outer bank to W.
