Kiln in Drumcar

Located on the S-facing slope of the valley of a small canalised E-W stream. Archaeological testing (20E0443) by L. Clarke identified a burnt spread (LH018-079----) and this feature which was c. 40m up the slope (excavations.ie 2020:420). It appeared as an oval pit (dims 0.77m x 0.52m; D 0.14m) with a single fill of dark grey sandy clay with moderate inclusions of burnt stone, charcoal and burnt clay, indicating its use as a kiln. About 6m to the W was a circular pit (dims 0.54m x 0.52m; D 0.1m) with a single fill of yellow/brown sandy clay with charcoal flecks and burnt stone material that yielded a piece of burnt flint.
