Holy well in Cappoge

The OS Letters refer to a well dedicated to St. Mary known as 'Cill Muire' or 'Tober Muire' (CLAJ 1924, 282). Also referred to locally as 'St. Brigid's Well' (IFC Schools' Mss 679, 324). Described as still open but in need of cleaning in 1956 (Coyle 1956, 198). Not visible at ground level when inspected by ASI in 1966. A station was said to have been held on the 15th August each year and according to tradition its waters were supposed to have risen at midnight on this day (IFC Schools' Mss 669, 5).
