What is recorded here
Detached lime kiln, c.1820, on a square plan, now partially incorporated into the modern house to rere. Opening at base comprises sequence of four recessed arches with dressed voussoir blocks, set into squared limestone rubble construction. Limestone paved area to front of opening.
This unusually intact lime kiln is a valuable reminder of both the former agricultural and industrial practises in the area, and the original appearance of these structures, now so often ruined. It now stands as an eye-catching feature in its suburban garden location.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
