Inscribed stone in Dunisky

On roadside, beside entrance to Mullaghroe House; two stones set up on low stone platform: to left is irregular stone (5.5m x 3.5m), inscribed "E.O.S.1614"; to right is taller stone, standing upright (H 1.15m; Wth 0.3m). The former is known as a hospitality stone; according to Smith (1750, vol. 1, 195) the purpose of this stone was in 'signifying to all passengers, to repair to the house of Mr. Edmund MacSwiney, for entertainment'. Nearby is a castle of the Mac Sweeneys (CO083-012----). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
