Inscribed slab in Johnstown

Situated in pasture, on the W-facing slope of a N-S ridge in undulating countryside. The name Killodiernan is translated as the church of the O'Tiernans and the Cill placename may suggest an early medieval date for the church site (Clyne 1984, 44). Listed in the ecclesiastical taxation of the Diocese of Killaloe in 1302 (CDI, vol. 5, 302). A well-preserved rectangular church (TN009-040001) built with roughly coursed limestone and sandstone rubble. A sandstone slab (L 1.20m; H 0.5m; T 0.08m) now situated lying up against inner face of S wall off centre to E is decorated with three roughly incised circles with a horizontal line running through the three circles.
