Seven shallow pits still lie hidden beneath the Clonard roadway, waiting for boots and lantern light. One watertight stone chamber may have held water for drinking or washing, while the others suggest a busy workshop where people mixed mortar and shaped local stone. The exact date has vanished, but the purpose remains plain: a small industrial area where human hands repeated practical work.

Excavated in advance of road construction (Licence no. 08E054), a group of pits were interpreted as representing a small industrial area of unknown date. Seven pits were identified, three of which contained lime mortar, the largest of which (1.4m x 1.1m x 0.6m deep) was lined with stone and designed to be watertight.
