What is recorded here
In the mid-17th century Rathcoole is said to have contained many goodhouses (Ball 1902-20, 2, 123). The Down Survey (1655-6) map shows dwellings at Rathcoole. The Poitín Stíl reputedly dated to 1649 and maybe one of these buildings. It is a two-storey, three bay building. The roof is hipped and recently thatched with rye.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
