O'Connell (1937, 91-2) quoting historical sources stated that there was an early ecclesiastical foundation established by SS Brandubh and Colum on Woodward's Island in Lough Ramor, c.60m from the shoreline. He believed that the site was destroyed in the early 18th century as a result of the building of a mansion on the island by the Woodward family. (Davies 1948, 113) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
