What is recorded here
On a gentle E-facing slope overlooking the river Blackwater, in an area of poor, wet, rough pasture. A rectangular area (int. dims. L48m E-W; Wth. 24m N-S) is defined by a low earthen bank (Wth c. 2.25m at W-c.4.5m at S; int. H c. 0.75m at W-c.1m at N and E; ext. H c. 1m at S to c. 2m at N), and an outer fosse (Wth c. 1.5m at S-c.2.5m elsewhere; D c. 0.5m at W-c.1m at N) which incorporates a natural depression (Wth c. 5m) at E. There are slightly raised earthen platforms (upcast from the fosse) in the corners of the otherwise level and boggy interior. Visible in improved pasture, with a densely overgrown perimiter along W, N and E, on a recent aerial photograph (OSi Orthophotos, 2005).
