What is recorded here

In undulating grassland, immediately NE of the site of Glennamaddy Union Workhouse. Poorly preserved circular rath (D 39m) defined by a bank and external fosse from NW through N to ENE; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. A field bank cuts the monument at SSE and SW. The interior is flat and featureless. On 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1933), the words 'Burial Ground (Disused)' appear adjacent to this monument but this is more likely to have been associated with the workhouse than the ringfort. (Knight c. 1975, 112) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.

The Old BankBank/financial institution · 993 yd

Explorer Tom The Old Bank in Glennamaddy refuses to fall down because it’s too proud to admit it’s broke. Its Italianate style is basically wearing a tuxedo in a small town where everyone wears tracksuits. Bring curiosity, leave with a headache from all that fancy stone.

M. KeavenyHouse · 1084 yd

Explorer Tom M. Keaveny is basically a landmark that lost a bet with a priest and now wears bright colors as punishment. It stands out in Glennamaddy like a sore thumb in a boxing ring, which is brilliant honestly. Pretend you're a lost artist looking for inspiration in that bold contrast.

Explorer Tom Bawn in Glinsk listens to what goes on inside the walls and probably hears the Burkes arguing about who left the light on in 1630. It’s a well-preserved semi-fortified house that looks like it’s judging your posture, so stand up straight or don’t bother knocking. It's free, it's odd, what more do you want?

Explorer Tom Round tower in Carroweighter is constantly losing a rivalry with the ones in Kildare, which are way too showy for their own good. It stands there with its arms crossed, pretending it doesn’t care that everyone else gets the tourists. Count the crows, then count them again to be sure.

Kellys MonumentMonumental structure · 11 mi

Explorer Tom Kellys Monument is a round tower that thinks it’s the center of the universe. Ten minutes here and you'll have a yarn for the pub about how ancient and important it is.
