Indicated, Kilcrea

Well-preserved double kiln built against rock outcrop, in abandoned quarry. Front elevation (N) has identical segmental arched recesses (H 2.5m; Wth 2.4m), both partially filled with rubble. Front wall (H 10m) has shallow horizontal ledge just above top of arches. Top enclosed by low stone wall(H 1.5m; Wth 0.55m); two stone-lined funnels (diam. 5m). Long sloping ramp to rear (Wth 15m; L c. 50m). Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
