What is recorded here
Indicated is a circular earthen fort in County Cork pasture, marked by a high wire fence and a shed built directly on its northern bank. Bowman measured a forty-yard diameter and a seven-foot fosse in 1934, yet the interior now serves merely as a dog pound above a possible hidden passage. The clay has absorbed centuries of breath and forgotten footsteps, waiting beneath the uneven grass for someone to stop treating the ancient line as a boundary for modern convenience.
In level pasture, c. 600m to N of River Blackwater. Circular area (c. 30m NE-SW) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.75m). Bank topped by high wire fence; shed built on bank to N where lime kiln is depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Interior surface uneven; used as pound for dogs. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 68) as single-ramparted fort (diam. 40yd; bank c. 4ft H) on W. O'Keeffe's land, with fosse c. 7ft wide and c. 4ft deep in parts; possible Man-made underground passage (CO031-02103-) in interior.
