Enclosure in Craggs, County Limerick

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

What is recorded here

In rough pasture, on very gentle N-facing slope. Active limestone quarry adjacent to the N. Sub-rectangular area (22.7m N-S; 27.4m E-W) enclosed by dry-stone wall (H 1m) along E and W sides with slightly curved corners at NNW and NE; wall has been removed NNW->NE. Artificially raised area, with cattle crush on top, defines area SE->SW via scarp-edge (H 1.05m). Interior under pasture, with modern wire fence on N-S axis dividing it. Described by Westropp (1916-17, 32) as a 'nearly levelled late cattle-pen'.
