What is recorded here

Indicated is a living graveyard in Ballyclogh where the ruined medieval church still holds crowded monuments and railed enclosures. The oldest readable stone appears in 1765, yet illegible markers beside it suggest much older burial and forgotten local continuity. The square walled ground sits at a road corner, still receiving the dead while the broken church keeps the earlier ones close.

At corner of two roads, in Ballyclogh village. Square graveyard (40m WSW-ENE; 40m NNW-SSE) enclosed by stone wall; ruin of parish church of Ballyclogh (14389) towards NW corner, immediately NE is former C of I parish church (14698). Graveyard still in use; interior of medieval church crowded with monuments and railed enclosures. Earliest headstone noted dated 1765, but many are illegible. Contains fine 18th century 'Doric monuments' (Fitzgerald 1917-20b, 265-67): Longfield monument, dated 1765, in style of Kidwell school (Potterton 1972, 114) and two others dated 1745 and 1778.
