Ballyclogh Castle stands as a five-storey rectangular tower at the southeast corner of a square bawn in County Cork. The bawn measures thirty metres across, providing a defensible yard for the tall stone structure. Together they form a compact martial landscape where height and enclosure served the same purpose.

This bawn is referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000, 522-3) under the entry (no. 14337) for a tower house (CO024-135001-). The bawn is referred to as follows in the entry: Five-storey rectangular tower (7.9m E-W; 9.2m N-S) at SE corner of square bawn (30m E-W; 30.15m N-S). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
