Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

The fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballycapple is in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is on a break in a west-facing slope in pasture. The site is levelled, with only a faint curving bank barely visible at the southwest. Its location and map indication suggest a possible ringfort classification.
Situated on a break in a W-facing slope in pasture. Indicated as a circular enclosure on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map and similarly on the 1903 ed. although the E portion is not indicated. The site is levelled with only a faint curving bank barely preceptible at SW. The location and indication on the OS 6-INCH maps suggest a possible ringfort classification. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
