House

House, 17th century

What is recorded here

Classified as an unlocated castle at Drumgold in the SMR (1987) on the basis that Drumgold was granted to Sir Francis Blundell in 1613 and again in 1620, but there is no record that he built a house on it as he was required to do. In 1630 Blundell sold Drumgold to Sir Henry Wallop of Enniscorthy (Loeber, Stouthamer-Loeber 1987, 190 1). In 1641 Robert Wallop had 900 acres in Templeshannon parish in the townlands of Templeshannon, Killiloge (Killagoley), Drumgoule and Clonhasten (Simington 1953, 72) but there is no record of a castle.
