In the Civil Survey (1654-6) under the introduction to the Barony of Slieveardagh 'Blenaleene' is described as having a castle & a slate house repaired at the States charge & inhabitted' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 101). The house is not listed under the entry for 'Bleanaleene', though 'James Tobyn of Killaghy Irish Papist' is listed as the proprietor in 1640.
