What is recorded here
Detached four-bay single-storey lobby entry house with half-dormer attic, extant 1840, on a T-shaped plan off-centred on single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch. "Improved", post-1925, producing present composition to accommodate alternative use. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles centred on red brick Running bond chimney stack having precast concrete corbelled stepped capping, concrete or rendered coping to gables, and no rainwater goods surviving on rendered eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Rendered, ruled and lined battered walls on rendered plinth. Square-headed window openings with concrete or rendered sills, and concealed dressings including timber lintels framing two-over-two timber sash windows having part exposed sash boxes. Road fronted with concrete footpath to front.
A house representing an integral component of the built heritage of Screen with the underlying vernacular basis of the composition suggested by such attributes as the rectilinear lobby entry plan form off-centred on an expressed, albeit later porch; the battered silhouette; and the high pitched roofline. A prolonged period of unoccupancy notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the historic or original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of a house making a pleasing, if increasingly forlorn visual statement in a rural village street scene.
