St. Kevin's Well in Philipstown claims the ghost of a knee-marked stone though no water or rock remains visible. Men dug east of the missing site in 1998 and found only ordinary earth, defeating the legend but never killing it. The well disappeared because people stopped believing it or because belief no longer needed proof. Kevin may have knelt there, bled there and vanished into the soil like so many saints whose names outlived their shapes.

Known as St. Kevin's Well and the supposed location of a stone bearing the mark of the saint's knees (LH017-064002-) (IFC Schools MSS 674, 60). No visible trace at ground level. An archaeological assessment (Excavation Licence 98E584) was carried out immediately to the E but did not reveal anything of archaeological interest (Meenan 1998).
