St. Brigid's water rose in Graiguenaspiddoge, County Carlow, drawing people to drink or dip cloth before sunrise. The well belonged to her, not to the town, and it answered that claim with cold clarity. People may have knelt there at dusk, watching rain fill the mouth of the earth while believing her presence could be felt in the taste of the water.
