The holy well in Bawnagarrane was associated with a Marian devotion, as evidenced by the feast day held on 15 August, known as Lá Muire na Gráinse, celebrating the Assumption of Mary. Such wells often served as sites for pilgrimage and healing rituals, reflecting the blending of Christian and pre-Christian traditions in rural Irish spirituality.
